How authorisation works
- The competence test. 25 multiple-choice questions on investing, the UKOGB Stock Exchange, the banks, ISAs and tax, and the FCA's rules. 18 to pass, within 30 minutes.
- The application. Experience, the planned strategy, the fees, and for a firm the staff who will manage money, plus a fitness check on the applicant's record.
- The FCA decides. A person at the FCA reads it, checks the record and approves or refuses. The FCA can later suspend, revoke or fine, and every action is shown here.
